A little while back, we ran a very special contest to give one of our lucky customers the chance to visit Castle Fonterutoli and the Mazzei winery in Italy, on the hills facing beautiful views of Val d’Elsa. It’s a small 16th century town and commune that has been the home of the Mazzei family since 1435.
The winner of the contest was Sokyong, and she was kind enough to take some amazing photos and give us a great decription of what sounds like an awesome trip!
Sokyong: I had a very lovely time at Castello di Fonterutoli! The atmosphere, architecture and gardens all made me feel like I had travelled back in time.
After a scenic drive from Florence, I arrived at Castello di Fonterutoli.
I was met by a very delightful and pleasant member of staff, who was waiting for our arrival. She showed us to our building and room:
On our first night, we were given a complimentary dinner with so many courses. I was so full that I couldn’t finish the delicious tiramisu that looked like a plant! You can see it in the pic below. The waiter was kind enough to explain each dish and recommend a wine pairing for each course.
The next day, we were given a tour of the Mazzei winery. We got to hear about the history of the family and winery, and we were able to taste the many different kinds of wine being produced there. They were delicious!
The castle is very conveniently located, too. I was able to visit the beautiful town of Siena during the day.
During my stay, the weather was also perfect. I went during early September, so the weather was warm during the day and slightly cool at night.
I thank BottlesXO for this experience and I highly recommend for everyone to go visit Castella di Fonterutoli!
Once again we’d like to give our congratulations and thanks to Sokyong. Stay tuned for more exciting contests in the near future!
